Brown Bag Luncheon Series:
"The Secretive Lives of Scorpions"
William Hayes, Loma Linda University

Thursday, June 25, starting at noon
Free admission. Iced tea will be served

Loathed by many and loved by a few, scorpions are best known for their capacity to deliver a very painful, and sometimes deadly, sting. Southern California hosts a number of scorpion species that are highly adapted to survive in a hostile desert environment. Among the many adaptations that contribute to their success, recent studies suggest that they are capable of making some pretty impressive decisions.

This lecture is in conjunction with the museum's "Scorpions!" exhibit on display through August 12th.

"Geology of Joshua Tree National Park"
D.D. Trent, Professor Emeritus, Department of Geology, Citrus College

Thursday, July 9, starting at noon
Free admission. Iced tea will be served

This lecture explores the geology and evolution of the Joshua Tree National Park landscape. D.D. Trent will talk about plate tectonics, regional geology and seismic activity that continues to shape this remarkable desert setting.
